According to a statement from Youtube, the platform says it bans content that denies, minimizes or trivializes well-documented violent events. These measures take effect now, being blocked also channels that associate themselves with state-funded Russian media globally.

“Our community rules prohibit content that denies, minimizes or trivializes well-documented violent events, so we are removing content about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that violates this policy. In line with this, effective immediately, we are also blocking YouTube channels associated with Russian state-funded media globally,” reads the statement issued by YouTube.

The company announced on Friday that it has begun blocking YouTube channels RT and Sputnik in Europe.

“We have discontinued monetization and significantly limited recommendations for Russian state-funded media channels. Both actions are global and indefinite. Our trust and safety team has been working to quickly remove infringing content.
