The Parliament launched a competition for the position of member of the TRM Supervisory and Development Board

The Parliament announced on Friday, September 15,  a contest to fill the position of member in the Supervisory and Development Board (SDB) of Teleradio-Moldova (TRM), left vacant after the resignation of Cristian Jardan. Candidates are to be proposed by civil society.

The eligibility conditions for candidates for SDB membership include at least five years’ experience in areas such as journalism, media, culture, cinema, law, public relations, international relations, financial and business management, information and communication technology, engineering, academic activity. Candidates must also have an irreproachable professional reputation, not be banned from holding public office or major public office, and not be politically affiliated or party members.

The contest was announced after Cristian Jardan left his position of SDB member. The journalist was appointed as political advisor in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the beginning of March 2023, according to Ziarul de Garda (ZdG) newspaper.

The SDB consists of seven members. Three are proposed by parliamentary factions, respecting the proportional representation of the majority and the opposition, and four members are proposed by civil society organizations. They are appointed by the Parliament for a single six-year term.

The new composition of the SDB was approved by the Parliament on November 25, 2021. Media Azi wrote that the decision was approved by the votes of 81 MPs, and it came three weeks after the Parliament passed the law on the return of the public company TRM under parliamentary control. According to that decision, the new SDB was to include Arcadie Gherasim and Sergiu Stanciu, proposed by the parliamentary majority, Corneliu Popovici, proposed by the opposition, and four persons from the civil society – Aurelian Danila, Loretta Handrabura, Cristian Jardan, and Irina Matenco.
