6 TV Channels Will Be Part of the Organizing Committee of the Company Selection Contest for Audience Assessment

Cinema 1, Prime, ProTV Chisinau, Jurnal TV, Moldova 1, and TV8 channel representatives will join the committee in charge of organizing a selection contest for the company for assessing the audience in the Republic of Moldova. The other three members will be appointed by such advertising distributors as Casa Media Corp, NovaTV Grup, and Sales Platform. The decision was taken by the Broadcasting Council (BC) on Friday, August 18, after the audiovisual media service providers and the advertising distributors failed to reach a consensus for appointing the nine members of the committee in accordance with the regulations.

According to the contest regulations, the providers benefiting from the current audience and market share assessment system, as well as advertising companies, were supposed to nominate nine members who will select the company which will assess the audience shares in Moldova in 2024-2029 on their own initiative. However, they did not come up with any suggestions until August 7, the deadline announced by the BC for deliberation.

In the absence of consensus, six members of the committee were appointed from among the media service providers in the jurisdiction of the Republic of Moldova ranked among the first six positions according to the audience rating prepared by TV MR MLD, a company currently in charge of market assessment. These are Cinema 1, Prime, ProTV Chisinau, Jurnal TV, Moldova 1, and TV8. The three others had to be appointed from the advertising distributors ranking among the top three positions by the amount of WGRP inventory purchased during the first quarter in 2023. According to the data provided to the BC, these are Casa Media Corp, NovaTV Grup, and Sales Platform.

At the same time, the BC appointed two observing members from among the staff of the Council, Serghei Martin, Head of the Provider Licensing Department, and Grigore Chitanu, Head of the Legal Department.

According to the authority, the first meeting of the contest committee will be convened during the next period of time.

Media Azi has previously written about the fact that, on July 14, the BC approved the Regulations on organizing a contest for selecting the institution which will assess audience and market shares in 2024-2029.

For more than a decade, TV audiences in the Republic of Moldova have been assessed by a single company, TV MR MLD (the official representative of AGB Nielsen Media Research), founded by a British company with offshore origins in Belize.
