Legal Assistance
Providing assistance to the journalistic community in the form of counseling or representation in court was the basis for creating the IJC. This service was initiated at a time when abuses against journalists were common. The professional competence of the IJC lawyers and the fact that the service has always been provided free of charge has ensured the ongoing interest of media outlets. Legal assistance is still requested today although not as frequently as in the past.
Legal consultancy
Journalists and media organizations in Moldova can contact the IJC for free professional advice from our lawyers on any problem related to the media law and the rights and obligations of journalists. Journalists whose rights have been violated, whose access to information has been restricted or whose right to freedom of expression has been breached may contact us in person, by phone or by email.
Representation in court
Journalists and media organizations that do not have their own legal services or sufficient means may, if necessary, request representation in court. The IJC usually represents media outlets in cases that either are or may cause serious violations of the freedom of expression or the right of access to information. If you need assistance, submit a written request and attach all relevant documents (e.g., application for summons, previous court decisions). For more accurate documentation, please see the Regulation on the Free Representation of Persons in Court.
