The court of appeal has recently rejected the appeal filed by Andrei Pavaloi, the interim head of the Department of Education, Youth, and Sports (DEYS) of Chisinau Municipality, against the decision according to which the Chisinau Court declared the claims filed by the official against the editorial board of the Timpul.md newspaper unfounded. The initiated litigation concerned an article published in December 2020.
The decision contested by Andrei Pavaloi was issued on December 21, 2022, after the magistrates of the Chisinau Court, Centru Headquarters, examined the complaint filed by the interim head of the DEYS against the article titled “The Problem of Children Getting Poisoned in Kindergartens and Schools in the Capital Keeps Expanding, and Ivan Ceban Is Suspected of Covering up These Issues.”
The media institution covered a municipal councilor’s criticism against the Department of Education at Chisinau Mayor’s Office, which was headed by Andrei Pavaloi at that time, in the context of cases of “food poisonings in schools and kindergartens.” In this context, Timpul.md recollected its own investigation about the way “the DEYS of the Rascani Sector became the champion of ‘UNDERCOVER’ purchases when it was headed by Pavaloi.”
The appeal filed by Andrei Pavaloi against the decision of the Chisinau Court was rejected by the court of appeal on November 1. The decision of the Court of Appeal can be appealed against at the Supreme Court of Justice.
