“The selected projects cover a variety of topics of public interest and promote values essential to society, such as cultural heritage and historical memory, cultural and national identity, intercultural and intergenerational dialogue, democratic values and European integration, as well as civic participation,” states the press release issued by the Ministry of Culture.
According to the ministry, the projects also contribute to “strengthening social cohesion by promoting inclusion and tolerance”, to the development of media literacy and critical thinking, and to increasing information resilience by combating disinformation and manipulative content.
As part of the first media grant competition, held in April 2026, 22 projects were selected, for which over 13.5 million lei were allocated.
Media Azi previously reported that the grant scheme for media organisations, established in early 2024, is a first for the Republic of Moldova. Through this scheme, the authorities have created a fund to provide financial support for projects and products developed by the press.
The media subsidy fund is administered by a council selected by representative media organisations, reporting to the Ministry of Culture, and its financial resources come from both the state budget and donations, sponsorships and grants from individuals or legal entities.
