The Broadcasting Council (BC) decided to fine Găgăuzia Radio Televizionu public company, the founder of the Găgăuzia TV channel, 15000 lei for repeatedly breaching the provisions of the Code of Audiovisual Media Services (CAMS) on broadcasting local programs in Romanian. The decision was taken at the meeting held on June 9, 2023, with unanimous votes.
According to the source, on April 21, the BC ordered to control several TV channels in order to monitor the compliance with the CAMS provisions on local content. However, during the BC meeting held on May 19, 2023, upon request of Vadim Anastasov, Găgăuzia Radio Televizionu public company director, the decision regarding the control results was postponed.
According to the data provided by the BC reporter, the Gagauzia TV channel was monitored on April 17-23, 2023. The control results confirmed the compliance with the requirements regarding the number of hours of the content broadcast in accordance with the regional media provider’s status, as well as broadcasting them in prime time. Instead, Găgăuzia TV broadcast less than 25% of local audiovisual programs in Romanian, the report mentions.
Of course, the minimum fine is suggested. The difference is not that large and, anyway, the dynamics is positive,” Liliana Vițu, BC president, commented.
