Journalist and media manager Dumitru Ciorici is to take up the post of spokesperson for the government led by Vasile Tofan. The announcement was made by Dumitru Ciorici on Wednesday, 22 July, in a social media post.
He explained that he had accepted the offer because he supports the reform agenda promoted by Vasile Tofan. Ciorici wrote that he shares “his ambition and sincerity in the desire to transform the state into one that is more efficient for citizens and more business-friendly, with the ultimate aim of bringing the Republic of Moldova even closer to the living standards of the European Union”, a goal which, he states, he has been promoting for over 20 years.
“I intend to build a good relationship with the media and with civil society, which will translate into effective, accurate and transparent communication,” said the government’s new spokesperson.
For his part, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan noted that the new Government intends to communicate actively about its work and expressed his conviction that Dumitru Ciorici is the right person to support him in this endeavour.
“Dumitru Ciorici, a media manager and journalist, is known for launching several digital media products. Dumitru has 20 years’ experience in the field and has a very good understanding of the media landscape in Moldova,” said Tofan.
Dumitru Ciorici has been active in the media sector since 2005. Throughout his career, he has contributed to the launch and development of several media projects. He has also served on the Press Council, was director of the Centre for Young Journalists in Moldova, and taught digital journalism at the School of Journalism in Moldova. In recent years, Ciorici has run a blog and a Telegram channel dedicated to news and current affairs.
